Pat's Final Farewell

After a quick exit (all be it we knew it was coming for months) Pat Butcher was laid to rest. She died New Years Day after making amends with her son David.
The funeral had Pat Butcher’s stamp all over it with black horses and carriage.
I did enjoy that they only had the flowers to say Pat; as in a previous episode Carol and David had decided Nana Pat would be too expensive.
The question on my lips and I am sure on everyone else’s was would Simon Wicks return for the funeral after all he didn’t make it to his mother’s sick bed.

The funeral brought a tear to my eye and reading people’s comments on Facebook and Twitter I was not the only one. For the past few weeks we have watched David and Carol grow closer, get back together and planning to run away much to the eldest Branning’s brother dismay. We have seen that there is no love lost between David and Derek and tonight Derek told Carol its because he had played mind games and forced him to not trust his girlfriend which lead to him hitting her and getting beat up by his brothers. Now is this true? Or is it just because he knocked his sister up at the age of 14.

We then saw Michael Moon set David up by ringing him to say that Derek had Carol at the Archers and in true Eastenders style he went running to the rescue only to be cornered by Derek, Max and Jack. I’ve got to say I didn’t like Jacks role in this scene as he held David before getting the weapon off of Derek when he pulled a knife out. Surely there is something more to this Derek and David feud. What was the burying a body comment with Derek and Jack all about? Will we find out about this mysterious body?

Finally we say Carol say goodbye to Bianca and get ready to start a new life with David who we all knew something would get to him to make him run away. We say little Tiffany asking Carol to do her bow which I found was such a touching scene. You could see it in David’s eyes that he was going to set off in the car leaving Carol behind broken hearted once again. Is this the last we have seen of David? Or will he listen to his mum’s last words and stop running away.

The credits began to roll and I couldn’t help but feel cheated that Simon Wicks played by the one and only Nick Berry hadn’t made an appearance, after all it was his mum’s funeral why would he not turn up?

My faith in Eastenders was returned when we saw Nick by his mum’s graveside after the credits had finished rolling. However this begged more questions.
Is that all we see of Simon? Has David left for good? I hope not and I hope we have a few weeks of the Wick’s brothers together after all we need to find out what happened between the warring brothers.

All in all it was a great send off to Pat Butcher and Pam St Clements. Sure people say it’s just a show but at the end of the day she has been a part of many people’s lives for such a long time.

There will be nobody like Pat Butcher on the square again.
