Olly Murs - Sheffield Arena

Olly Murs
In Case You Didn’t Know Tour

Olly Murs was gracing Sheffield with his presence on Sunday night (12.2.12) and he didn’t disappoint.

Firstly we had to sit through the support acts and with all honesty this is the part I usually hate as they never seem to grasp my attention and I’m just wishing the time away until the act I have paid to see makes an appearance. However Lillygreen and Maguire have restored my faith in support acts. The songs they performed, even though I hadn’t heard before seemed to be catchy and after the first chorus I was singing along. I also really liked the mash up they did off well known songs because you could definitely sing along. Not only did they warm the crowd up with their talent they also had amazing banter with the crowd. As I watched them it wasn’t like watching a support act, it was like watching a duo that is born to do this. I hope to hear more from Lillygreen and Maguire and I suggest you check them out on Twitter. (https://twitter.com/#!/lilygandmaguire)

The tension began to rise after Olly’s second support act The Lonsdale Boys Club had finished. It is the first time that I have been amazed at how quickly it was time for the main act himself to come on stage.
The lights went down and lit up a range of people on saxophone, percussion, keyboards, strings and personally my two favourites the two back up singers that for the life of me I can’t remember there names, all I do know is that they were a pleasure to watch and really put a smile on my face.
Olly Murs was magnificently lit up at the back of the stage and as the beat to Anywhere Else started Olly emerged from the stage floor – a great entrance. I loved the addition of We Will Rock You during his second song of Change Is Gonna Come; I actually heard the song whilst I was waiting for the doors to open, so it was nice to know I wasn’t hearing things.
An embarrassing moment for Olly occurred when he split his trousers busting some moves on his little catwalk giving the front row an eye full, although judging by the response no on seemed to mind.
Olly kept coming with the surprises after his first costume change the music started and he started to sing but no one could see him on the stage. He then emerged from the crowd sending the audience in to frenzy. This is something I wasn’t expecting as the only acts I’ve known to do it have done a fair few arena tours before they decide to brave us animals.
Special guests included the one and only Miss Piggy and Animal for The Muppets who helped with his performance of Dance With Me Tonight. Clearly Olly and Miss Piggy really clicked during his stint on the Xtra Factor.
He really worked the crowd and stage making sure everyone got to see him up close and personal, even going in to the middle of the crowd by walking over a ladder that came down and left him in the middle of the arena, leaving the audience to wonder how he would make his way back. Not one to disappoint or leave anyone out he made his way to the stage walking through the crowd at the other side. According to Olly they were the craziest side, he nearly didn’t make it with his clothes on, and again I don’t think any of us would have had any complaints.
Of course a tour wouldn’t be the same without a medley and I loved his James Brown medley it really got me moving and even the little kids enjoyed it.
All good things must come to an end and the best song he could have finished on was of course My Heart Skips A Beat, which is also nominated for a Brit for Best British Single. Olly told the crowd that he will be here for as long as we are here and with that I say Mr Olly Murs is going to be around for a very long time and I will wait patiently for album after album and tour after tour.
Well done Olly, you have done yourself and your fans extremely proud.
